With no one in the house, the stuffies decided to play hide and seek in the kitchen and do a little cooking in the meantime. Nathan decided he would do the cooking so he got into the fridge and pulled out a bag of pitas. After pre-heating the oven, he cut apart the pitas and brushed them with oil. Then he sprinkled on seasoning and put them in the oven. Culinary genius.
While the pita chips were cooking, Nathan hid in the oven drawer. Alvin hid behind a squash, certain that he couldn’t be seen.
Smurfy got himself behind the toaster, a little more visible than Alvin but oddly creepy.
Snuffles went all out and got himself into the bag of flour. He couldn’t even see his own paw once the bag top got rolled up. Alfie found a spot in the bowl with the bread dough but the fumes got the better of him and he had to escape.
Tropical was the last to participate and she found a spot behind the paper towels.
George had no idea what was going on so he just sat on the counter, watching.
Once all the stuffies (except George) were hidden, they waited. They waited and waited and waited. After the buzzer went off for the pita chips, Nathan had to pop his head out and switch out the trays but he quickly returned to his hiding place after resetting the timer. Again the stuffies waited. Half an hour went by before they realized that no one was ‘it’. Oops. Alvin volunteered to be ‘it’ and popped out from behind the squash. He jumped off the counter and started looking around. First, he checked out the freezer but got distracted by some frozen fish left over from the market. After a delicious meal, he turned around and happened to see Tropical’s wing poking out. “Gotcha!” Alvin yelled as he and Tropical raced to the safe zone. As Alvin ran, he saw Smurfy. “Gotcha again!” Alvin hollered and then touched the safe wall, ahead of Smurfy but beaten by Tropical (she can fly). When he turned his head towards the stove he noticed silly feet and red hands sticking out from behind the squash.
“Hey! That’s my hiding spot!” Alvin yelled and beat George to the safe zone. Alfie was the only successful hider in the group, who ended up in the sink, with the water running. He was wet but victorious. After the game, everyone enjoyed a large helping of Nathan’s famous pita chips.
The next morning, while Mum was making French toast in the kitchen, she heard some rustling coming from the pantry. Scared but curious, Mum opened the door and saw a polar bear crawling out of the flour bag. Shaking himself off and spraying flour everywhere, Snuffles looked up at Mum and asked, “did I win?”
